We've got 11 reviews posted on the Stephen King Project website so far in January. Please check out the website for more information on how you can read just 1 Stephen King book and join the Project for a chance to win prizes, plus have the opportunity to discover other readers who enjoy King. When I announced the project on this blog several of you wanted to read King but didn't want to read his horror fiction. I found a list on the message board section of Stephen King's official website that lists some of his non-horror reads. I have no idea if the list is complete but it will certainly be a good start for those of you hoping to sample King but not wanting to scare yourself too much. The great thing you will discover about King is that there really is something for everyone in his writing.

That is a good list! I've not read all of the books on it, but the ones I have read are very good. I'd add Rose Madder and Lisey's Story as non-horror possibilities as well, and Jenny and I put together a list of some of our favorites at http://shelflove.wordpress.com/2011/01/09/sunday-salon-the-kingdom/
ReplyDeleteHaving just read the whole Dark Tower series last year, I don't know that I'll be reading much King this year, except for the new Dark Tower book (squee!), but I hope the challenge is a success for everyone who joins in.
So happy I saw this post tonight. I guess it's better late than never, right? I totally forgot about this one until I saw Kathleen's post today. (I just signed up).
ReplyDeleteI haven't read all four of the novellas included, but Different Seasons is a great book for those who don't want to go into King's horror writing. It has four novellas included, one of which was the basis for the film, Shawshank Redemption, and another of which was the basis for Stand By Me. I use this one in a college class and the students really like it.
ReplyDeleteHe is fantastic and I think appeals to different readers because his work is varied. I wish I could put all my other books away and just read King .
ReplyDeleteOn Writing was fantastic.
Stacy: I understand completely! If you change your mind and want to read just one, let me know!
ReplyDeleteTeresa: Thank you for sharing the link to your list!

ReplyDeleteNaida: I agree and On Writing is one of my favorites.
