For those of you that think King only writes horror fiction, think again. He's written a variety of novels that include fantasy and his latest, 11/23/63 which is a time-traveling adventure. His characters are always memorable and his storytelling ability ranks up there with the best! Natalie and I would love to have you join on us this year long challenge. If you are already a King fan, it will be a good excuse to read a few that you haven't gotten around to and if you have shied away from King you can give 1 book a try (at least), expand your reading horizons, and see what you think! And, you can also watch a movie or mini-series based on his work. I can highly recommend It, Carrie, The Shining, and on and on!
Here's the details as written and posted by Natalie and a link to the website that she created for us today! Isn't that awesome? And, she created three cool buttons for you all to use! I'm excited, can you tell?
The Stephen King Project Overview
- This will run from January through December 2012
- Anyone can join. But you should have a blog OR an account with Goodreads, Shelfari, etc., so you can write your reviews and we can visit via the link at The Stephen King Project.
- The Project will be hosted at The Stephen King Project review site. Participants should link their reviews to the Linky there.
- Audiobooks count.
- E-books count.
What Are the Commitment Levels?
- A King Novice: 1 book
- A Lil Bit of King: 3 books
- A King to Balance It All: 6 books
- A King Legend: 9 books
- A King for All Seasons: 12+ books
What About the Movies?
- Hell. YEAH. Same rules from the above apply, except...
- You can mix and match but you should have more books than films in your end-of-year total tally.
What Should You Do Now?
- Write an announcement post on your blog.
- You don't have to put a list of books together in your announcement post. Or you can, whatever works for you.
- Use one of the blog buttons below in your announcement post.
- Enter the link to your announcement post at The Stephen King Project Announcement Post (not the Project Overview post).
- Every time you write a review, enter the link to it for the appropriate month at the review site. (On the 1st of each month, a new entry will be posted at the review site, and you can link up your reviews there).
- At the end of each month, one participant from that month will be selected via random.org and will win a book from either Kathleen or I (or we may both have a book to give you). The book may or may not be King-related.
- At the end of the year, one participant from the year will win a $50 gift card!
So here are the blog buttons to choose from:

Oh, I am so excited for this! I updated my post a gazillion times because I kept forgetting stuff :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Stephen King picture you posted, so perfect! I'm trying to figure out which one I'm going to kick off the year with. Maybe something that's not too much of a chunkster. Hmm... so many to choose from!
The Stephen King picture you posted is rather creepy. I will be reading a King book with my book club this year!
ReplyDeleteI may not formally join right now, but I'm excited that you and Natalie are doing this!!! I would like to read more King now and into the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm not formally doing challenges this year, but I can tell you that I am in the middle of 11/22/63 right now, and plan on also listening to Duma Key and re-reading his set of short stories. I will try to remember to link up with you when I review them! I love Uncle Stevie. Always have.
ReplyDeleteawww...I just commented, but I think blogger ate my comment.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely join! I love S.K.
Thanks for hosting ladies!
I wasn't going to join anymore challenges, but this sounds so good. I've been wanting to read Stephen King books (I haven't read them in a long time), but watching Bag of Bones made me realize how much I enjoyed his books.
ReplyDeleteI'll consider joining this. Thanks for hosting it!
Haven't done my sign-up post yet but I'll be joining you. Going to be fun renewing my acquaintance with Mr K.
ReplyDeleteHave fun. I'll cheer you on from the sidelines.
ReplyDeleteCare: We will definitely be glad to have some cheerleaders on the sidelines!
ReplyDeleteCat: Yay, I am so happy you are joining us!!
ReplyDeleteYvonne: We'd love to have you join us if you decide you can. Just remember you only need to read 1 book so that takes the pressure off.
ReplyDeleteNaida: I'm so glad you are joining us and can't wait to see what you will read!
ReplyDeleteSandy: Yes, definitely link up! Your reviews are always so insightful and I know you will have lots to say about King!
ReplyDeleteAndi: If you change your mind we would LOVE for you to join us!
ReplyDeleteKathy: Ha, I must admit that I looked for the creepiest one I could find!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great! I'm reading 11.22.63 at the moment and loving it. I've read quite a few of Mr King's novels and loved most of them. That was before I started my blog, that's why I haven't written many reviews for them. It would be nice to have a list of all his books to know which ones to choose next.
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of sworn off challenges this year but I'll be cheering you on and very interested to read about Stephen King novels that aren't horror. One day I really might pick one of those up!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting challenge. I can't say I'll read all of King, but I will pledge to read one of his books this year. I bought one recently ... just need to get around to reading it.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful 2012.
Awesome challenge!! I love Stephen King and plan on reading his new one this year (I guess I will complete the 1 book challenge.) I don't think he gets the respect he deserves so I'm glad to see you guys doing this!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a blog or a review account but I would like to know about some of his non horror books.
ReplyDeleteCould you list a few of the titles? I picked up a pb copy of The Colorado Kid but haven't opened it yet. I think it is a non horror book.
Good luck!
I haven't read any King before, but have wanted to for a while. I think this will be the motivation I need. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am a complete King virgin, but this sounds fun! I actually have a copy of The Stand that I want to read but it is SO long... do you think it could count as more than one book? ;)
ReplyDeleteCount me in! I have 11/23/63 on my Kobo now.
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to say that I have not read a single King book :(. This would not be the year for me to join in the challenge but I do look forward to reading your reviews. Perhaps you can help me decide which one to read first?
ReplyDeleteFun challenge. King is hit or miss with me, but mostly he's a grat storyteller.
ReplyDeleteDelia: I'm glad you have chosen to join us for the project!
ReplyDeleteLitlove: I promise you will learn about a few that are not in the horror genre!
ReplyDeleteCatherine: I look forward to hearing more about the one you choose to read!
ReplyDeleteJenner: Yay, I am so happy you are joining us. I can't wait to see what you pick and I know I will love the review!

ReplyDeleteSteph: The Stand is a long one. I read it so long ago but plan to reread it. I think it should count as two! I'm glad you'll be joining us and can't wait for your thoughts on The Stand.
ReplyDeleteVasilly: Yeah, I am so happy you are joining us and reading the one book that I hope to read soon!
ReplyDeleteMolly: There are so many to choose from that depending on if you want to read horror, fantasy or mystery there would be a different recommendation. I haven't read it yet but people seem to rave about his latest on the JFK assassination. You might try that one and see what you think.
ReplyDeleteStacy: I would agree that King is definitely a consistently great storyteller.
